| Eat, drink and shrink 08.02.2014 Let’s talk about better living! Our new interactive family corner aims to expand our lifestyle horizons with practical little pearls of wisdom from the editor and input from our readers
Eid is just round the corner, which means delicious kahk (cookies) and more family gatherings with all those yummy meals. For almost four weeks, many of us have tried hard to keep track of our food intake and exercise regularly to improve our health and gain a better body shape despite the extremely hot temperature. To maintain this healthy lifestyle you’ve managed to follow during the holy month of Ramadan, stick all the way through the Eid with your plan and overcome temptations.
Here are some tested tricks to help you keep weight gain at bay while on vacation
Count your cookies: When there are cookies, it’s easy to lose count of how many you eat. Set a limit and stick to it.
Regulate portion sizes: Be sensible with the amount of food you pile on your plate. Each food group should be equivalent in size to your fist.
Burn more calories: Walk, walk, walk! Walking gives you the exercise you need during vacation without the huff and puff of jogging.
Share your meals: Splitting food helps you to try more food. Typically, this means splitting an appetiser, entrée and dessert during both lunch and dinner. In the end, you ultimately eat less calories overall.
Stay away from sodas: Drink plenty of water to keep hydrated. Take an espresso in the morning to wake up a little, but never opt for a soda.
Go for fruit snacks: Make sure to carry with you some fruit snacks while you’re on the go. Having that extra intake of fiber, with very little calories, will definitely help you feel good during vacation.
Don’t stress Going on a vacation is a great stress buster and the best thing you can do to lose weight, since chronic stress can actually increase appetite and thus cause us to put on the pounds. The best thing to do is to stop worrying about everything, including your diet.
